In order to be eligible for a pension remission off rates and water:
In order to receive this remission, you will need to fill out the application form below and visit Council offices in Georges Bay Esplanade, St Helens or Holder Brothers store at Fingal. Your card will need to be sighted by Council officers and a copy will be taken.
If you are having difficulties accessing the Council offices, the completed form can also be mailed to Holder Brothers Fingal or the Council office in St Helens. However, applicants would need to provide a photocopy of their card with their completed application form, as Council officers do not have the opportunity to sight the pension card.
The Department of Treasury and Finance set a maximum amount each year which can be claimed for pension remissions. For the 2008/2009 financial year this amount is $366.00.
Council calculates pension remission by giving a maximum 30% discount on each of the rating items as shown on your rates notices.
Eg. 30% off, each of, the general rate, garbage, sewerage, water and fire levy, where applicable, up to a maximum of $366.00. The State Fire Commission also offers an additional 20% discount off the fire levy. This extra 20% is in addition to the maximum $353.00 set by the Department of Treasury and Finance.
When Council calculates this discount and it is below the maximum, the balance will be credited to your water meter account (if applicable). Each water meter account will receive a maximum 30% rebate until the balance maximum rebate for that financial year.
