INTRODUCTION by Mayor Robert Legge

"Fire destroyed much in the Break O'Day municipality, but it has not harmed the community spirit."

"Homes will be re-built, businesses will be re-built and together we will put St Helens back on the map for the right reasons."

"We are fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful areas of Tasmania and we are determined to move forward."

"This assistance from the Red Cross and the State and Federal Governments is a vital part of this recovery process," said Mr Legge.

These grants represent the first phase of financial support for the community. Further funding is available from the State and Commonwealth Government to assist with broad community recovery efforts.

The Council will be consulting with the families affected by the fire and other members of the community on how best to use these funds.

Applications forms will be available from Monday 22nd January 2007 at the follow locations:

  • Break O'Day Council Municipal Offices, Georges Bay Esplanade, St Helens.
  • St Helens Service Tasmania Shop, 23 Quail Street, St Helens.
  • St Mary's Police Station, Storey Street, St Mary's.
  • Sorell Council, Municipal Offices, 12 Somerville Street, Sorell.
