Recycling comes to Break O'Day

It is our plan to introduce a kerbside recycling service by the 2017 Christmas holidays that will include all residences that already receive kerbside collection of their waste.

This service will mean some significant changes for our community, particularly around which bin to use for what. This is because the bin we currently use for our general waste (with a yellow lid) will become our recycling bin and residences will receive a new bin with a red lid to use as their general waste bin.

In order to make this change as easy as possible for our community we are running a number of education and awareness campaigns including:

Developing a FAQ sheet

This sheet should help answer many of your questions around the new service and can be found viewed or downloaded on the right. Just click ono the file called Recycling FAQ.

Sticker design competition

Who better to champion our new recycling service than our kids! That is why Council in partnership with the Northern Tasmanian Waste Management Group are running a sticker competition in the two District Schools, St Marys and St Helens.

The competition will see students at St Marys designing a sticker for the lid of the new, red lidded, waste bin and the St Helens students will be designing the sticker for the yellow lidded recycling bin.

The winner of each of the sticker designs will win an iPad.

To download the information for this competition click on the files to the right; Recycling Comp Guidelines and Sticker template.

Facebook campaign

Over the next few months a series of posts will pop up on a Facebook page. The aim of these posts is to give the community some tips for recycling and making the most of the new service as well as keeping the changes in the minds of our residents.

If you are not already a follower of our page click HERE to keep up to date with what is happening in our community.

As we get closer to the start of the service, we will keep this page updated to ensure you have all the information you need. In the meantime, if you have any questions not answered by the FAQ sheet, you can give our office a call on 6376 7900.
