Property Sales for Unpaid Rates
Section 137 of the Local Government Act allows Council to sell properties for unpaid rates, we don’t like having to take this action however it does become necessary on occassion.
The process begins with the advertising and notification to owner/s of properties that fall under this section of the act, the owners have ninety (90) days in which to pay the rates and any charges in full. Should the outstanding rates remain unpaid at the end of the ninety (90) day period, Council may sell the property at auction. An auction is not held every year, it all depends on the number of properties (if any) that may be in this situation.
There is currently no properties commencing the section 137 process:
The following properties will be up for auction on Saturday 30 November 2019. All enquiries regarding the land and auction process are to be directed to Council’s agent L J Hooker St Helens 03 6376 2300.
Any development queries can be directed to Council’s Planning department.
